A little bit of Halloween magic is coming to Lithgow

Something slightly strange is brewing at the Union Theatre this Halloween — and the whole community is invited.

On Friday, October 30 from 7–11pm, the theatre will come alive for a Day of the Dead Halloween Ball, with live music, dancing, performance artists, Mexican food truck, costumes and plenty of theatrical mischief. Performers are coming from Lithgow and Orange, musicians are travelling from across the region, and local dancers and artists are bringing their own particular brand of magic to the night.

There will also be a bar and a pop-up café run by the local church, serving homemade goodies. The best part? Much of the weekend is being created by people simply volunteering their time, talent and energy because they want to see something fun happen in their town.

Saturday brings more Halloween mayhem, with a Warhammer gaming afternoon at the Union Theatre, run by local Lithgow business Lithgeek Computer Repair, before the Council’s street celebrations take over the evening.

And when the street event finishes, the weirdness isn’t quite over.

From 8pm, the Union Theatre opens its doors for a dress-up singalong screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, with the movie starting at 9pm. Costumes are very much encouraged, the bar will be open, and there may be a few people in the audience who know every word.

It’s a weekend stitched together with a little imagination, a lot of community spirit and a healthy disregard for behaving normally.

Come dressed up. Bring your friends. Support local performers, volunteers and businesses — and prepare to have some fun.

Tickets for the Halloween Ball, Rocky Horror and the weekend pass are available online: www.trybooking.com/DOXZW or visit www.mythikastudios.com.

Halloween is coming to Lithgow. The Union Theatre may never be quite the same.
