Music lovers across the region are set for a powerful afternoon of choral performance when Phoenix Choir Blue Mountains brings one of the great works of the Romantic era to Lithgow next month.
The concert, to be held on Sunday, 24 May at 3 pm, will feature Franz Schubert’s Mass No. 6 in E-flat major, widely regarded as the composer’s final and most ambitious sacred work. Written just months before his death, the mass is known for its dramatic intensity, rich harmonies and striking contrasts, combining moments of grandeur with passages of deep reflection.
Under the direction of returning Musical Director Rowen Fox, a Mt Victoria-based composer, arranger and choir director, the performance will showcase the depth and versatility of the well-regarded Blue Mountains ensemble. The choir will be joined by four professional soloists, adding further dimension to what promises to be a compelling live experience.
Audiences can expect a program that not only highlights Schubert’s enduring legacy, but also offers variety, with three shorter complementary works by Mozart, Mendelssohn and Schubert rounding out the afternoon.
The concert will be staged at Hoskins Memorial Uniting Church in Bridge Street, a venue well-suited to choral music with its intimate setting and acoustics that enhance the warmth and clarity of live vocal performance.
Organisers are encouraging both seasoned classical music followers and those new to the genre to attend, with the program designed to be both accessible and engaging.
Tickets are available online via the Phoenix Choir website or can be purchased at the door, priced at $40 and $35, with free entry for children under 12.
