Fibre upgrades via nbn® Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) are now available across large parts of Lithgow, with over 5,000 homes and businesses now eligible to upgrade from a legacy copper-based nbn technology.
More than 1,500 customers across the region, including Lithgow, Wallerawang and Portland, are already realising the benefits of the fibre upgrades, which include greater reliability, faster speeds and a better customer experience.
Fibre is nbn’s fastest technology, meaning residents and businesses are able to access wholesale download speeds of up to 2000 Mbps*, supporting smoother, higher-resolution video calls, enhanced streaming, faster downloads and the ability to connect more devices simultaneously.
For over 1700 eligible Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) customers across the region, nbn has just made it easier to trigger a full fibre upgrade to nbn Fibre to the Premise (FTTP). With the change, introduced in July 2026, these customers can now contact their internet provider to request an upgrade to full fibre, on whatever speed plan meets their needs. The change will help transition the network off legacy copper, delivering a better customer experience and a more resilient network.
With more people working remotely, running businesses from home and connecting smart devices, reliable connectivity is becoming an essential part of life in the Lithgow region.
In Australia, data demand and usage have grown dramatically, with the average household consuming 557 gigabytes of data per month, and FTTP services averaging 668 GB per month as customers embrace higher speeds.
