More than six decades of agricultural tradition will be celebrated later this month when the Burraga Sheep Show & Country Fair returns on Saturday, 29 August.
Now in its 66th year, the much-loved community event will carry some extra significance in 2026, marking the final year it will be held in its traditional Sheep Show format. From next year, the event will continue as the Burraga Country Fair, building on its strong community foundations while evolving for a new generation.
Organised entirely by volunteers from the Burraga Agricultural Bureau, the annual show has long been an important part of the local calendar, celebrating agriculture, country life and the people who make the Burraga district special.
This year’s program will retain plenty of those traditions, including Sheep and Wool Competitions, Yard Dog Trials, the popular Dog High Jump and extensive Pavilion Exhibits covering everything from cooking, preserves and baking to photography, art, craft, horticulture and flowers.
There will also be plenty for younger visitors, with junior competitions, children’s activities and a jumping castle, while the broader program includes a mechanical bull, classic car display, whip cracking demonstrations, markets, community displays, local produce and plenty of food.
Adding something new to the mix this year will be the Burraga Beaut Ute Competition, with categories celebrating everything from immaculate show vehicles and hardworking farm utes to four-wheel drives and the proudly well-worn “feral” ute.
Entries are $5 per category, with judging from 1 pm.
Visitors are also encouraged to make a full day of it, with live music continuing as the sun goes down and providing a relaxed finish to the celebrations.
Behind the event is a dedicated team of volunteers, supported by sponsors, exhibitors, stallholders and community members who continue to ensure Burraga’s proud rural traditions are celebrated.
The 66th Annual Burraga Sheep Show & Country Fair will be held on Saturday, 29 August – a fitting opportunity to celebrate the end of one chapter and the beginning of another for this wonderful country event.
