Compareo theatre program expands in Bathurst

The popular weekly performing arts program for adults with disabilities has expanded in Bathurst.

After strong demand a second weekly class is now on offer on Tuesday mornings and now open for enrolments.

The classes are for young adults with disabilities who have a strong interest in drama, dance, or the performing arts.

Creator of Compareo, Catherine McNamara, has a long history of facilitating performing arts programs for and with people with disabilities. A major highlight was the premiere of her children’s theatre play ViV! in Bathurst last year, where members of Bathurst’s Compareo program helped prepare, plan and take part in the professional performance.

“The weekly classes aim to improve confidence, communication, fitness, and teamwork,” Ms McNamara said.

Participants can attend with support workers, who are encouraged to participate in the activities as well.

“‘Compareo’ is Latin for ‘be visible, be present’, and these workshops are an empowering and skills-based way to build confidence, self-expression and share your creative flair,” Ms McNamara said.

When: 10 am-12 pm on Tuesdays. New term starts Tuesday, 21 July.

Where: Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre
