Art Bringing New Life to Lithgow Main Street

Vacant shopfronts in Lithgow’s Main Street are being transformed into colourful community spaces thanks to the ongoing Lithgow Tidy Towns Shopfront Art Project.

The initiative invites local artists to showcase their work in vacant retail spaces, creating eye-catching displays that brighten the streetscape and celebrate the region’s creative talent.

Designed to make vacant premises more visually appealing and welcoming, the displays also offer artists an opportunity to share their work with the wider community. Artwork remains on display for around six weeks, unless the premises are leased to new businesses in the meantime.

Current displays can be viewed in the windows at 159 Main Street and feature artwork by local artist David Newman White and his art group, as well as works by Rob Morrow. The installation has already attracted plenty of attention from both locals and visitors, who have stopped to admire the creativity and talent on show.

Over time, the project has featured artworks by many artists across the region, showcasing the depth of artistic talent within the Lithgow community and adding vibrancy to the town centre.

Lithgow Tidy Towns thanked Linda Hine for coordinating the displays, as well as local real estate agents and shop owners who have supported the initiative by making their vacant windows available.

The project continues to demonstrate how community collaboration, creativity and local pride can work together to make a positive impact on the heart of Lithgow.
