A fresh blanket of snow across Shooters Hill has once again highlighted why Oberon is regarded as one of New South Wales’ premier winter destinations.
The recent cold snap transformed the district into a striking winter landscape, with snow settling across the higher elevations around Shooters Hill and the surrounding forests. Images of snow-covered roads, towering pines and frosted paddocks quickly began circulating online, capturing the beauty of one of the Central West’s most recognisable winter scenes.
At 1,355 metres above sea level, Shooters Hill is the fourth-highest point in the Central Tablelands and one of the state’s most reliable locations for natural snowfall outside the alpine region. Oberon’s high elevation and cool climate mean the district experiences several snowfalls during a typical winter, making it a favourite destination for photographers, nature lovers and anyone hoping to experience a true Australian winter.
While snowfall is never guaranteed, it remains one of the defining features of an Oberon winter. The region’s forests, rolling farmland and quiet country roads take on an entirely different character when dusted in white, creating scenes more commonly associated with Australia’s alpine areas.
