Wallerawang is celebrating a remarkable achievement, with local athlete Emily Reeve helping Australia secure a silver medal at the International Cheer Union World Championships in Orlando.
Emily was selected as part of Team Australia’s Youth Hip Hop division (YUHO), competing against the world’s best in what is widely regarded as the home of competitive cheer and dance. The team delivered an outstanding performance, finishing second in the world — an extraordinary result on the international stage.
This achievement is even more impressive given the unique way the team prepared. As Australia’s first national Youth Hip Hop team, members were drawn from across the country and trained largely online. Over five months, they came together for just three intensive training weekends to learn and refine their routine. The team then reunited in Orlando, spending four days rehearsing and perfecting their performance before stepping onto the world stage.
For a small regional community like Wallerawang, Emily’s success is a proud reminder of the talent and determination that continue to emerge from the area. While the region has produced many accomplished athletes, competing — and placing — at this level in the United States is a standout achievement.
Behind the performance lies not only Emily’s talent, but also significant dedication, discipline and hard work. The commitment required to balance training, travel and team coordination across distances is no small feat. Equally important has been the support network around the athletes, including parents, coaches and trainers, whose encouragement and sacrifices play a vital role in reaching this level.
Emily’s achievement is an inspiration for young people across the region, showing what is possible with focus, resilience and a willingness to step onto the global stage.
The community sends its congratulations to Emily and the entire Australian team and looks forward to following her journey as she continues to pursue her passion in the world of cheer and dance.
