Get ready to enjoy a day of fishing and fun at Lake Wallace for Gone Fishing Day! With the lake freshly stocked with new fish, this event offers a perfect opportunity for both beginners and experienced anglers to get involved.
Gone Fishing Day is an annual event hosted by the NSW Department of Primary Industries, aimed at encouraging everyone to get involved in the fun and relaxation of recreational fishing. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting out, it’s a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and maybe even land a prize!
Although the official statewide event took place on Sunday, October 13, the local celebration at Lake Wallace has been moved to Sunday, October 20 to avoid clashing with the Bathurst 1000 race. With the extra time to prepare, the Wallerawang Central Acclimatisation Society (CAS) is gearing up for a fantastic day.
You don’t even need to be an experienced fisherman to walk away a winner.
“The event is an educational one primarily, however anyone can come down and have a go, we have lots of prizes throughout the day,” said one of the organisers, Ray Tang.
To make sure the fishing is top-notch, 100 brood stock rainbow trout, each weighing between four and five kilos, were released into Lake Wallace on October 15. So, there’s plenty of fish waiting to be reeled in!
“The main goal of the day is to get people outside and having fun,” Tang explained. “While it’s not about raising money, any funds we do collect will go toward community projects like improving fishing facilities.”
Gone Fishing Day offers plenty of benefits, from promoting tourism to fostering community spirit. It’s a day where everyone can participate, regardless of age or ability.
“Lake Wallace is a bit of a hidden gem that’s not used as much as it could be,” Ray said. “The best part is that fishing is for everyone—from toddlers to seniors, from disabled to abled—it’s an inclusive activity.”
The CAS also expressed their gratitude to the local businesses that have come on board to support this year’s event.
So mark your calendars and come along for a fun-filled day at Lake Wallace. Whether you’re there for the fishing, the prizes, or just the community atmosphere, it’s sure to be a great time!
