Get Social Media Savvy with Sophie Hansen!

For small business owners, social media can be a wonderful way to connect with customers, showcase products and share the stories behind their business. But knowing how to create great content isn’t always easy!

As part of NSW Small Business Month 2026, Mid-Western Regional Council is offering a free, interactive workshop designed to help local businesses make the most of their smartphones and build confidence when creating social media content.

Introduction to Reels and Smartphone Photography will be held on Thursday, 29 October, from 5pm to 7pm, with experienced food writer, photographer and content creator Sophie Hansen leading the session.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already posting regularly and looking to improve your skills, the workshop promises plenty of practical tips and techniques that can be put to use straight away.

Participants will learn how to take better photographs, create engaging videos and Reels, and feel more comfortable stepping in front of the camera themselves.

Sophie will also share a simple approach to planning, filming, editing and sharing content, helping business owners develop a more consistent and effective social media presence.

Based on a farm outside Orange, Sophie brings more than 25 years of experience in food writing, photography and content creation.

She is the author and photographer of five cookbooks, including Local is Lovely, A Basket by the Door and What Can I Bring?, and was named Australian Rural Woman of the Year in 2016 for her commitment to rural communities.

With social media playing an increasingly important role in promoting local businesses, this free workshop is a fantastic opportunity to learn from someone who knows how to tell a great story through images.
