Halloween celebrations will get an early start in Lithgow this year, with a free, family-friendly Fright Night at Lithgow Valley Cinema on Friday 30 October.
The evening will showcase the finalists in the Lithgow Halloween Smartphone Film Competition, which has attracted entries from more than 25 countries, alongside films created closer to home.
Designed as a fun introduction to Lithgow’s Halloween celebrations, Fright Night promises plenty of atmosphere without being too scary for younger visitors. All shortlisted films are G-rated, children are welcome, and entry to the event is completely free.
The night will feature live music from local favourites the Spice Ghouls, free refreshments and the chance to settle into the wonderfully quirky surrounds of Lithgow Valley Cinema for a collection of short, spooky, funny and imaginative films made entirely on smartphones.
The competition challenges filmmakers to create a Halloween-themed film of no more than 10 minutes, using a smartphone or tablet. Cash prizes will recognise Most Creative, Best Performance, Best Youth Film, Best Local Film and Best Local Youth Film, with the audience also getting involved by voting for the People’s Choice Award.
A prestigious guest judge will help select the winning entries, with the award winners announced during the evening.
While the competition has drawn filmmakers from around the world, a strong focus remains on encouraging local creativity and giving emerging Lithgow filmmakers the opportunity to see their work on the big screen.
With free entry, free entertainment and free refreshments, Fright Night offers families an easy and affordable way to begin their Halloween celebrations.
The screening will be held at Lithgow Valley Cinema, 16 Main Street, Lithgow, on Friday 30 October. Seating in the historic cinema is limited, so booking is essential.
