Bathurst Regional Council welcomed a new leadership team following its Mayoral election, with Councillor Ben Fry elected Mayor and Councillor Sophie Wright elected Deputy Mayor at the Council meeting.
Cr Fry was first elected to Council in December 2021 and brought valuable experience to the role, having previously served as Deputy Mayor.
In accepting the position, Cr Fry paid tribute to outgoing Mayor Cr Robert Taylor, acknowledging his leadership and contribution to Council and the wider Bathurst community.
Cr Taylor’s time as Mayor saw him represent the interests of the Bathurst region across a range of important local and regional matters. Cr Fry’s acknowledgement reflected the respect held for his commitment and service throughout his time in the role.
Cr Sophie Wright was elected to Council in September 2024 and will now take on the responsibilities of Deputy Mayor. Her appointment marks another positive step in her service to the community and adds a fresh perspective to Council’s leadership team.
Together, Cr Fry and Cr Wright will lead Council as it continues working with residents, businesses, community groups and government representatives to support the region’s needs and future priorities.
Their election begins a new chapter for Bathurst Regional Council, building on the work already underway while bringing renewed energy and enthusiasm to its leadership.
