Fishing rods at the ready – there are some seriously big fish heading for Lake Wallace, with Gone Fishing Day set to return on Sunday 18th October for what promises to be a fantastic day on and around the water.
The Wallerawang Acclimatisation Society (WAS) is gearing up for the community event, with support from the NSW Government, Energy Australia, GPM and Seven Valleys Tourism.
Adding some extra excitement this year, the NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) will support the event with a special release of approximately 250–300 grown-out trout into Lake Wallace.
And these aren’t little fingerlings.
The release will include Tiger trout weighing around 3–4kg and rainbow trout tipping the scales at an impressive 4–5kg – giving local and visiting anglers the chance to hook into some very serious fish.
Gone Fishing Day will feature a fishing competition, information talks and plenty of great prizes, with every registered fisher also going into the draw for additional prizes.
WAS President Ray Tang said the event was about much more than simply landing the biggest fish. “Gone Fishing Day is about getting people out to Lake Wallace, enjoying a day together and hopefully introducing a few new people to fishing along the way,” Ray said.
“We’re incredibly grateful to DPIRD for this special release and to all of our sponsors and supporters who have helped make the day possible. Events like this don’t happen without people and organisations getting behind them, and we really appreciate that support.”
With Lake Wallace providing a spectacular backdrop, the event is shaping up as a great day out for experienced anglers, families and those keen to cast a line for the first time.
And with hundreds of hefty Tiger and rainbow trout joining the Lake Wallace population ahead of the event, there could be some impressive catches – and even better fishing stories – by the end of the day.
Gone Fishing Day – Tigers on the Loose will be held at Lake Wallace on Sunday 18th October.
Bring the family, bring the fishing gear and get ready to see what’s biting!
