Whether you’re a seasoned musician or someone who’s never picked up an instrument before, Music BUSS is proving that the joy of making music is something everyone can experience.
Established in November 2022 as a program of Bathurst Uniting Support Services, Music BUSS has become much more than a weekly music session. It provides a welcoming space where people of all ages and abilities can come together to sing, play and learn in a supportive environment while building confidence, friendships and a genuine sense of community.
Now the group is inviting even more people to discover what it’s all about through the Magical Mystery Music BUSS Tour on the weekend of 22 and 23 August at the Beatlesfest in Bathurst event.
The weekend begins with a hands-on workshop from 9am to 12pm on Saturday, 22 August, at the Uniting Church Activities Hall. Open to participants of all skill levels, the workshop offers a relaxed introduction to the Music BUSS experience, encouraging everyone to have a go, regardless of musical background.
The celebrations continue on Sunday morning with a free community performance from 10.30am to 11.30am at the Machattie Park Rotunda, showcasing the friendships and confidence that have grown through the program.
In 2023, a number of participants formed Minibus, a community band united by a shared love of music and its ability to bring people together. The group now performs regularly at community events and fundraising concerts, helping support Bathurst Uniting Support Services while inspiring others to chase their own musical ambitions.
Beatles fans are in for a special treat during Beatlesfest, with Minibus performing the iconic 1965 album Rubber Soul in its entirety at 6pm on Saturday, 22 August, at Little Alberts in The Victoria Hotel. Audiences can look forward to live performances of timeless classics including Drive My Car, Norwegian Wood, Nowhere Man, Michelle and In My Life, performed in the original album order before a selection of encore favourites.
