ARTsunday – Ophelia – 2018, rated M • Sunday 30th August @ 2:00pm

Shakespeare’s Hamlet is reimagined through the eyes of Ophelia in this beautifully crafted drama. Daisy Ridley brings strength and spirit to a character traditionally defined by tragedy, as love, betrayal and intrigue unfold within the Danish court. The World in His Arms – 1952, rated PG • Sunday 6th September @ 2:00pm

Adventure, romance and old-fashioned Hollywood charm combine in this sweeping tale starring Gregory Peck. Set in 1850, a sea captain falls for a Russian countess fleeing an arranged marriage, leading to a spirited adventure from San Francisco to Alaska filled with rivalry, daring escapes and romance on the high seas. Featuring Gregory Peck, Ann Blyth & Anthony Quinn.

The Choral – 2025, rated M • Sunday 13th September @ 2:00pm

Set in a Yorkshire town during the First World War, The Choral follows a community choir facing change as its young men head to war. With a new choirmaster and an ambitious Elgar performance ahead, music becomes a source of connection, courage and hope amid uncertainty, loss and a changing world. Stars Ralph Fiennes, Roger Allam, Mark Addy, Alun Armstrong, Robert Emms & Simon Russell Beale.

Mister Roberts – 1955, rated G • Sunday 20th September @ 2:00pm

Originally a Broadway play, Mister Roberts brings humour, camaraderie and wartime frustration aboard a US Navy cargo ship far from the action. Henry Fonda stars as Lieutenant Roberts, caught between a tyrannical captain and his loyalty to the crew, while longing for his chance to serve where the real fighting is. All-star cast of Henry Fonda, James Cagney, William Powell & Jack Lemmon.

ARTsunday – The Song Keepers – 2017, rated PG • Sunday 27th September @ 2:00pm

WITH THEATRE ORGAN RECITAL FROM 1:30PM & AT INTERVAL BY LOCAL ORGANIST BRIAN KINNEY

Australia’s answer to The Buena Vista Social Club, The Song Keepers tells the inspiring story of an Aboriginal women’s choir and their first tour of Germany. Four generations of women preserve a 140-year musical legacy of ancient Aboriginal languages, German sacred hymns and baroque music. Together, these remarkable women share their music and stories of cultural survival, identity and cross-cultural collaboration with the world.

Lithgow Valley Film Society is located at 16 Main Street Lithgow. Registration cost is $15 per family (at the one address) for a year. Session cards available in lots of five but if your purchase an 8 session card, you will receive 1 complementary session. Candy Bar will be open, eftpos available. Membership is also strongly encouraged, this is how the LVFS can continue to provide such a wonderful service.
