As the Great Western Highway diversion continues to impact traffic through Hartley, local businesses are working hard to remain open, positive and welcoming, with community support playing a vital role in helping them navigate the challenging period.
Among those leading the charge is Hartley House Café owner Ange Richardson, who continues to seek creative ways to attract visitors to the historic village and encourage support for the businesses that have committed to staying open throughout the disruption.
One such initiative is the inaugural Hartley House Café Car Boot Sale, to be held on Saturday, 20 June. The event is designed to bring people back into Hartley, creating a fun and affordable day out while supporting local traders and the wider village economy.
Ms Richardson said the idea was simple – encourage people to clear out their garages, sell unwanted items and enjoy a day of community connection in one of the region’s most iconic locations.
Visitors can expect a variety of stalls featuring household goods, collectables, pre-loved treasures and plenty of unexpected finds. Whether you’re searching for a bargain or simply looking for an enjoyable weekend outing, the event offers another reason to make the trip to Hartley.
Importantly, local business owners say every visitor counts. A coffee purchased, a meal enjoyed, or a stop at a local business helps support operators who continue to invest in the village despite difficult trading conditions.
The Car Boot Sale also highlights the determination and resilience of the Hartley business community, with operators working together to ensure the village remains a vibrant destination during the diversion period.
Stallholder applications are now open via the Linktr.ee on the Hartley House Café Facebook page (facebook.com/hartleyhousecafe), with payment to be made on arrival.
Community members and visitors alike are encouraged to head to the Hartley end of the Great Western Highway, explore the village, support local businesses and enjoy a day discovering hidden treasures while helping keep Hartley thriving.
