Oberon Rotary Calls for Young Leaders to Apply for RYLA 2026

Oberon Rotary is encouraging local young people to take the next step in their leadership journey, with applications now open for the 2026 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program.

The six-day residential retreat, running from Sunday 21 June to Friday 26 June, will be held at Warrambui Retreat and Conference Centre in Murrumbateman. Designed for people aged 18 to 28, RYLA is widely recognised as one of Rotary’s flagship youth development initiatives, offering an intensive and immersive leadership experience.

In a strong show of support for local youth, Oberon Rotary Club will fully fund one successful applicant to attend the program, removing what can often be a barrier for young people looking to access high-quality professional development opportunities.

RYLA is designed to empower participants to reflect on their own leadership style, gain clarity around their goals, and build the confidence needed to take on greater responsibility in their communities, workplaces and personal lives. Across the six days, participants will engage in a carefully structured program featuring expert presenters, experienced mentors and hands-on learning.

Sessions cover a wide range of topics, including leadership theory, ethics and responsibility, conflict resolution and negotiation, and strategies for building trust and empowerment within teams. Participants will also develop practical skills in organisation, planning and time management, while learning how to navigate challenges and build resilience.

The program blends these sessions with outdoor recreation, group activities and team-based challenges, creating a dynamic environment where participants are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones. Structured opportunities for personal reflection are also a key component, helping individuals better understand their strengths and areas for growth.

Beyond the formal program, RYLA places a strong emphasis on connection and collaboration. Participants will meet like-minded peers from across the region, forming networks and friendships that often continue long after the retreat concludes. These connections can play an important role in supporting future career pathways and community involvement.

The broader aim of RYLA is to equip young people with the tools to create positive change. Participants leave the program with improved communication and problem-solving skills, a clearer sense of purpose, and a renewed commitment to contributing to their communities.

Applications for RYLA 2026 close on 21 May, with interested applicants encouraged to apply early.
