VIEW members around Australia will celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March.
Globally, International Women’s Day (IWD) honours women’s social, economic, cultural, and political achievements while calling for action to advance gender equality. Across the world, communities come together to celebrate progress and advocate for change.
For VIEW, giving is at the heart of everything we do. giving time through volunteering, fundraising, and creating opportunity – empowering young Australians in need through education, while also strengthening ourselves and our communities.
In return, VIEW members gain friendships and stronger communities. Social connection keeps women engaged and enhances our wellbeing. When we give, we gain connection, purpose and belonging.
“As a national women’s organisation, we celebrate women every day, but IWD in particular is a wonderful opportunity to bring together women from across Bathurst area to celebrate all that women do, and give, to the community.” said Dianne Thurling, President.
IWD is a wonderful opportunity to discuss the theme of equity and explore ways in which we can create gender equality across our community.”
Embedded in local communities yet united as a national organisation, VIEW members have long advocated for equal access to education for girls and women, recognising education as the foundation of independence, leadership, and lasting social change.
“VIEW members speak out on a whole range of issues which are essential for the future wellbeing not only of women, but all Australians. A recent national vote by our members endorsed the following resolutions for the next two years.
- Support for children falling below national literacy and numeracy benchmarks.
- Increased funding for mental health support in schools through dedicated, qualified professionals, and
- Creation of, and support for, programs that address loneliness and social isolation.”
Said Dianne Thurling, President.
VIEW is a national women’s organisation with 13,000 members in almost 260 communities exclusively supporting the children’s education charity, The Smith Family. Members sponsor students and also volunteer, fundraise and advocate to improve the life outcomes of Australian children and young people experiencing disadvantage.
The future is community – harnessing the power of bringing people together. For women seeking connection and community. At VIEW they will find both – we warmly welcome them to join us!
IWD has been observed for over a century, as have many of the issues still impacting women’s advancement. Since 1911, IWD belongs to all who care about gender equality.
