The Girls Can Too program continues to make a positive impact, giving students the opportunity to explore careers in traditionally male-dominated trades through hands-on learning and real-world experiences.
During Weeks 4 and 5 of the program, participants attended the workshop and classroom sessions to develop practical skills and gain valuable insights into a range of career pathways.
Week 4 focused on metal fabrication, with students learning the basics of working with metal and using workshop equipment in a safe and supportive environment. The session provided a chance for the girls to build confidence while developing practical skills that are highly valued across a range of industries.
In Week 5, attention turned to the electrical trade, where students gained an understanding of the work electricians undertake and the diverse opportunities available within the industry. The hands-on activities helped bring the trade to life and encouraged students to consider careers they may not have previously explored.
A special highlight for the group came when Channel 7 visited to interview the students about their experiences in the program. The girls spoke about what they had learned, the skills they had developed and how the program had broadened their thinking about future career options.
The Girls Can Too program aims to inspire young women to consider a wide range of career opportunities while building confidence, resilience and practical skills.
Program organisers said they were proud of the enthusiasm and willingness shown by the participants, who continue to embrace new challenges and explore exciting career pathways with confidence and determination.
