The much-loved Textures of One Art Prize will return in 2026, inviting artists to engage with a theme that is both thought-provoking and rich with creative potential, Nowhere / Somewhere.
This year’s motif encourages artists to explore the concept of place in its many forms. From landscapes both real and imagined, to the emotional and personal connections we carry, Nowhere / Somewhere opens the door to interpretations that are as expansive as they are deeply individual. It may reflect a place remembered or longed for, somewhere left behind, or even a destination yet to be discovered.
The theme reaches beyond geography, touching on ideas of belonging, dislocation and identity. Roads and horizons, paddocks and homes, maps and dreamscapes, all offer inspiration, alongside the more abstract inner landscapes shaped by memory and imagination.
Artists are invited to respond to the theme across a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, textiles, photography and digital art. Whether through recognisable scenes or abstract expressions, the 2026 prize promises to showcase a diverse and compelling collection of works.
There is a playful yet reflective quality to this year’s theme, exploring the in-between spaces, the feeling of being lost or found, anchored or adrift. It asks artists, and ultimately viewers, to consider where meaning is found and what truly defines a place.
Entries are now open, with a $1000 Blayney Shire Council Acquisitive Prize on offer, along with the $250 Loretta Kervin Encouragement Award for first-time entrants.
Submissions close at 11.59 pm on Friday, 17 April 2026. Artists can enter via sidetrackarts.com.au.
