Bathurst Hockey Association is set to benefit from $10,000 in funding for heating and air-conditioning in the clubhouse thanks to the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grants Program.
With the warmer weather we are currently experiencing and cooler tempreatures known to frequent the region, the timing of a funding announcement by the Member for Bathurst Paul Toole couldn’t have been better.
Mr Toole met with members of the club ahead of an all stars match to deliver the good news.
“The funds will go towards the purchase of reverse cycle split air conditioning system,” he said.
“Bathurst Hockey does a great job in the local community offering an inclusive sport for people to participate in and have a great time being active.”
It was only in December last year that Mr Toole announced funding of $190,000 for to upgrade the lighting on turf fields 1 and 2.
Mr Toole said the club would now have the capacity to host other sporting clubs such as rugby, soccer and AFL on their fields for training of an evening under the lights.
“It is so important we continue supporting our local sporting clubs. They are the life-blood of our communities and key to ensuring our kids live a healthy and happy lifestyle,” Mr Toole said.
Bathurst Hockey Association President Kent Bestwick said the club is excited for the upgraded facilities.
“Bathurst Hockey Centre is home to some major hockey tournaments and now the clubhouse will be much more comfortable for spectators and players,” Mr Bestwick said.
“This will make weekend sports more enjoyable and bring even more tournaments to the region which is great for the sport and for the local players.”
Grants of between $2,000 and $10,000 per project were available with up to $50,000 available in each electorate.
Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said the program will encourage people of all ages and abilities to enjoy the benefits of sport and active recreation.
“This funding will provide a cash injection to help improve sport facilities, enhance accessibility and hold new and exciting events and development programs,” Mr Henskens said.
“No government has invested in community sport like the Liberal and Nationals, and this program is another example of the more than $1 billion we’ve pumped into grassroots community facilities and infrastructure.” More information about the program is available online.
