Staying Active at Every Age

Bathurst residents are being encouraged to get moving, stay connected and enjoy the benefits of physical activity as part of Active Ageing Week this October.

Bathurst Regional Council has partnered with Bathurst Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Centre and Manning Aquatic Centre to offer two free community activities, providing accessible ways for older residents and people living with disability to take part.

Across Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October, Manning Aquatic Centre will offer free pool access for concession card holders and their carers, including seniors and people living with disability.

Whether it is a few gentle laps, some movement in the water or simply enjoying time at the pool, the weekend provides a great opportunity to enjoy the benefits of aquatic exercise without the usual entry cost.

The activities continue on Tuesday 20 October, when Bathurst Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Centre will deliver a free seated, entry-level strength and balance class at Centennial Park from 10am.

Designed to be accessible for those wanting to build confidence with exercise, the class will focus on simple movements that support strength, balance and everyday mobility.

Active Ageing Week is a timely reminder that staying active does not have to mean strenuous exercise. Finding an activity that suits your ability and circumstances can be an important part of maintaining independence, wellbeing and social connection as we age.

Bookings are required for both activities.

To RSVP, contact Bathurst Regional Council’s Community Services Team on 02 6333 6523 before Friday 16 October.

Participants will also be required to complete a Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire before attending.
