The Allegri Singers of Bathurst are preparing to bring something very special to audiences this December, with Christmas with Bach set to be performed across two concerts in Orange and Bathurst.
At the heart of the program is inspiration – both musical and personal.
The choir’s Musical Director, William Moxey, and his wife Lorraine, who leads the instrumental ensemble the Allegri Players, have long shared an appreciation for the extraordinary music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
That appreciation was taken to another level following a recent visit to St Thomas Church in Leipzig, Germany, where Bach served as Musical Director from 1723 until his death in 1750.
Standing in a place so closely connected with one of history’s greatest composers provided the inspiration for William and Lorraine to dream a little bigger – and the idea for an entirely Bach program was born.
Now, that idea is becoming a reality.
Rehearsals are underway as the Allegri Singers, joined by friends and the Allegri Players, prepare a beautiful program featuring three cantatas from Bach’s much-loved Christmas Oratorio, along with a selection of other choral and instrumental works.
It promises to be a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the beauty and richness of Bach’s music while celebrating the Christmas season with some of our region’s talented musicians and singers.
Christmas with Bach will be performed in Orange on Saturday, 5 December, followed by Bathurst on Sunday, 6 December.
