Three Tree Lodge has celebrated a major milestone with the official opening of its Wattle House extension and the new Melaleuca Cottage in Lithgow.
Federal Member for Calare Andrew Gee officially opened the facilities, joined by State Member for Bathurst Paul Toole, Lithgow Mayor Cass Coleman, council general manager Ross Gurney, government representatives, residents, families and members of the wider community.
Supported by $3.6 million in Australian Government funding through aged-care capital grants, the purpose-built additions will provide more flexible accommodation and specialised support for older residents.
Wattle House offers several accommodation choices, including shared rooms suitable for couples, siblings or friends, as well as private suite-style accommodation.
Melaleuca Cottage provides a smaller and more intimate care environment, with flexible options including respite care. It is designed to support people transitioning into permanent residential care and residents who may benefit from specialist assistance in a cottage setting.
Three Tree Lodge CEO Kate Hurrell said the organisation and its board were proud of the new facilities and the additional care options they would provide for people in Lithgow and surrounding communities.
The project was delivered with the support of Glenstone Constructions, government representatives, staff, volunteers and community supporters.
The opening also provided an opportunity to recognise Three Tree Lodge board chairman Garry Brown, who has served as a director since 2006 and became chairman in 2011.
In recognition of his leadership and practical contribution to the organisation, the garden outside Wattle House was officially named “Garry’s Garden”.
The honour was presented by founding director Tim Le Fevre, who has been involved with Three Tree Lodge since 1997.
Lithgow City Council described the development as a significant regional investment that would support residents’ comfort, wellbeing and independence while strengthening Lithgow’s growing health precinct.
