Volunteers Celebrated at National Volunteer Week Event

Local volunteers were recognised and celebrated on Saturday, May 23, as community members gathered at Lithgow Library for a special National Volunteer Week event hosted by Volunteer Connect Lithgow Region Inc.

The morning brought together volunteers, community organisations and residents to acknowledge the countless hours of time, care and dedication contributed by volunteers across the Lithgow region.

A highlight of the event was the official launch of the “Lithgow Volunteer Guide”, a new resource designed to connect people with volunteering opportunities and local organisations. The guide aims to make it easier for residents to discover ways they can become involved in community life and support causes they are passionate about.

Held under the National Volunteer Week theme, “Your Year to Volunteer”, the event encouraged people of all ages and backgrounds to consider the many benefits of volunteering, both for the community and for personal well-being.

Guests enjoyed morning tea and networking opportunities while learning more about the diverse range of volunteer roles available throughout the region. The event also provided local organisations with the opportunity to connect with potential volunteers and share information about their work.

Volunteer Connect Lithgow Region Inc’s Leanne Walding said the event was an important opportunity to thank the volunteers who help strengthen the community every day.

“Volunteers are at the heart of our community. Whether they’re supporting sporting clubs, community groups, emergency services, charities or local events, their contribution makes a real difference to the lives of others,” Leanne said.

The gathering also highlighted the growing importance of volunteering in building connected, resilient communities and ensuring local organisations can continue delivering valuable services and programs.

Supported by The Centre for Volunteering, the event served as both a celebration and an invitation, encouraging more people to consider how they can get involved and make a positive impact close to home.

For those interested in volunteering, the newly launched Lithgow Volunteer Guide is expected to become a valuable resource for connecting people with opportunities across the region. For more about the Volunteer Connect Lithgow Region Inc via email lrvolunteerconnect@gmail.com
