There’s something special about a country hall filled with live music, laughter and people of all ages taking a turn around the dance floor, and that spirit will be alive and well when the Country Dancehall Project comes to Oberon next month.
Malachi Gilmore Hall will host the lively night of bush dancing and live country music on Saturday, September 12, from 5 pm to 9 pm, bringing a modern country twist to one of Australia’s great social traditions.
Leading the dancing will be “Padre” John Healey, who brings an impressive 40 years of experience calling bush dances. Whether you know your Heel n Toe Polka from your Gallopede or have never stepped onto a bush dance floor before, everyone is welcome to join in.
John will guide dancers through favourites including the Heel n Toe Polka, Gallopede, Hokey Pokey and a Virginia Reel with Strip the Willow, making it a night where grandparents, parents and children can all get involved together.
Adding a fresh edge to the traditional country hall experience will be live performances showcasing the next wave of Australian country music talent between dance sets.
The Rotary BBQ will fire up from 5 pm, making it easy to grab dinner before hitting the dance floor.
Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for over 65s, $10 for school-aged children or $70 for a family, with a five per cent discount available for tickets purchased online through Humanitix.
