Lithgow’s former Pacific National site at Chiefly Road will be permanently named ‘The Loco ’, with new owners, the Borg Group, unveiling a permanent sign honouring the site’s history.
In addition to the new steel-plate signage, local professional historian Ray Christison has been engaged to write an official history of the site, gathering local oral histories and images as part of the work.
“As we prepare to reinvigorate the site, it is important to acknowledge the role it has played in the community,” a spokesperson for Borg said.
“We know many people have worked here and we encourage them to have their personal stories recorded. It has played a key part in Lithgow’s industrial past, and we look forward to it again playing a role in the future.”
Early works have begun on the site and will continue as the site is activated for future industrial use. Borg will work with the Lithgow City Council as part of the site’s reactivation.
Locals who used to work at ‘The Loco’ are encouraged to contact Ray at raychristison@higround.com.au to record their stories, with the final work to be produced toward the end of the year and copies distributed to the community.
The Borg Group employs 2,200 people in New South Wales and is a vertically integrated group of companies focused on building products, manufacturing, and steel fabrication with major facilities in Somersby, Charmhaven and Oberon. With its group entities, Borg will lead the reestablishment of ’ The Loco’s ’ as an industrial site.
