Blayney Rotary celebrates 70 years of service at annual Changeover Dinner

It was a privilege to join Blayney Rotary Club as members celebrated 70 years of service to the local community at their annual Changeover Dinner, held at Blayney Golf Club.

The evening brought together Rotarians, community members and supporters to reflect on the club’s long history of service, generosity and practical action. For seven decades, Blayney Rotary has made a lasting difference through local projects, fundraising efforts and acts of kindness that have strengthened the community and supported people in need.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of $5,000 to the Children’s Tumour Foundation in memory of the late Geoff Bottom. The funds were raised through the generosity of local businesses and members of the public, reflecting the deep respect held for Geoff and the community’s willingness to support a meaningful cause in his honour.

The club also extended its thanks to Greg Squires from Squires Signs in Blayney, who generously donated the cheque template for the presentation.

As part of the formal changeover proceedings, outgoing President Rohan Hoadley handed over the Charter and Collar to incoming President Heather Ferguson, marking the beginning of a new Rotary year. Rohan was warmly thanked for his leadership, dedication and steady commitment throughout the past year, while members congratulated Heather as she takes on the role of President.

The evening was also the final official Blayney Rotary event for exchange student Eida Solbraa from Denmark before she returns home. Eida reflected warmly on her time in Australia, including the opportunity to travel and experience different parts of the country. More importantly, she spoke of the welcome she received in Blayney, saying students and staff at Blayney High School had been warm and friendly from the moment she arrived, helping her feel at home. She will miss her host family and leaves with lifelong friendships made here in Australia.

The evening also recognised outstanding community contributors through Paul Harris Fellow Recognitions, awarded to Michael and Della Baker, Frank Akehurst, Greg Hooper, and Blayney Rotary’s own Graeme May.

Congratulations were extended to all members of Blayney Rotary Club on reaching 70 years of service, a remarkable achievement and a testament to the club’s ongoing role in supporting the Blayney community.
