Bathurst volunteer celebrated during National Volunteer Week

It’s National Volunteer Week, and Royal Freemasons’ Benevolent Institution (RFBI) is celebrating the volunteers who make a meaningful difference in the lives of their residents.

One of those volunteers is Robyn Halliday, who has been generously giving her time to RFBI Bathurst Masonic Village for more than 5 years.

Robyn supports residents in a range of ways, including playing piano at Happy Hour, assisting with Bingo and spending time visiting residents weekly. She volunteers twice a week and is known for her warmth, reliability and genuine connection with residents. After moving into the Retirement Living Village with her husband, Robyn was inspired to volunteer following her experience of the welcoming environment and the kindness shown to residents.

“I was very impressed with the village and the staff,” Robyn said.

“Volunteering has been incredibly fulfilling. I enjoy listening to residents’ stories and spending time with them. It makes such a difference to their day and to mine.”

One of Robyn’s most meaningful contributions has been visiting a resident with no family in Australia, ensuring he maintains regular social connections and companionship. “It is very nice to talk to someone each week and share my story and thoughts,” said David Groves, Resident.

“The care and companionship Robyn brings each week has a real impact on our residents’ wellbeing,” said Ivy O’Campo, General Manager at RFBI Bathurst Masonic Village.

National Volunteer Week provides an opportunity to recognise the vital role volunteers play across Australia, particularly in aged care settings where connection, time, and companionship matter deeply.

RFBI relies on volunteers across its villages to support lifestyle activities, social engagement and resident wellbeing, and is proud to recognise Robyn and all volunteers who give their time so generously.

Anyone interested in volunteering with RFBI is encouraged to find out more about opportunities at their local village.
