Blayney Flies the Flag at Sydney Royal Easter Show BBQ

The Blayney A & P Association has proudly represented the Central West on one of the country’s biggest stages, taking part in the Big Bush BBQ at the Sydney Royal Easter Show on Saturday, April 11.

Association members made the journey to Homebush, rolling up their sleeves to serve thousands of visitors while showcasing the region’s spirit and hospitality. The strong volunteer turnout reflected a deep commitment to the community, with organisers extending thanks to all who travelled and contributed to the day’s success.

The Big Bush BBQ is a longstanding feature of the Show, bringing together agricultural societies from across New South Wales to celebrate rural life in a hands-on way. More than just a barbecue, it offers a platform for regional communities to share their stories, connect with city audiences, and promote the importance of local shows in keeping traditions alive.

Supported by the RAS Foundation and Woolworths, the initiative provides show societies with a unique opportunity to raise funds and build awareness, without the financial burden often associated with large-scale events.

For the Blayney A & P Association, the experience was both rewarding and valuable, reinforcing the role regional groups play in the broader agricultural community.

Looking ahead, other local societies are being encouraged to consider applying for the 2027 Big Bush BBQ. With applications set to open later this year on the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW website, this presents an opportunity for more communities to step onto the national stage, share their local flavour, and strengthen the connection between country and city audiences.
