Vibrant Stories on Canvas: Angela Kaden at T.Arts in May

T.Arts Gallery has announced Angela Kaden as its Artist of the Month for May, bringing a striking collection of bright and expressive works to the Bathurst arts space.

A proud Quandamooka woman from Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island) in Queensland, Kaden’s work is deeply grounded in culture, storytelling and personal connection. Raised living off the land through fishing and hunting, she draws on these early experiences, along with the teachings passed down through family, to inform her artistic practice.

Kaden’s connection to art began at a young age, painting on paperbark collected from her island home. For her, art is more than visual expression—it is a way of sharing knowledge, preserving stories and continuing the traditions of her people. That influence runs strongly through her work today.

She is also the niece of renowned poet and political activist Oodgeroo Noonuccal (Kath Walker), a legacy that has shaped her appreciation for storytelling and cultural voice.

Kaden describes her paintings as intuitive, each piece reflecting what she feels in the moment. The result is a collection that is both vibrant and personal, inviting viewers to connect with the story behind each canvas. In keeping with her values, she strives to keep her work accessible, ensuring more people can experience and enjoy it.

As part of her residency, Kaden will be the guest presenter at T.Arts’ popular Tea and Talks event on Saturday, May 16 from 2.30pm at the gallery, 75 Keppel Street, Bathurst. The afternoon promises a relaxed and engaging conversation, paired with light refreshments.

Bookings are essential, with tickets priced at $25 and can be purchased via Humanity https://events.humanitix.com/may-tea-and-talks-with-angela-kaden. To keep up to date – head to Facebook www.facebook.com/t.artsgallery.
