Waste to Art Returns to Oberon with a Focus on Footprint and Creativity

Oberon is once again putting creativity to work for the environment, with the return of the Waste 2 Art competition and exhibition at the Oberon Library & Community Centre.

Designed to educate, inform and challenge the way we think about waste, the annual exhibition invites the community to transform discarded materials into meaningful works of art. The theme, Shrink your footprint, encourages participants to reflect on consumption and sustainability while showcasing their creativity.

Open to all ages and skill levels, Waste 2 Art Oberon 2026 offers an accessible entry point for anyone looking to get involved. This year, organisers have introduced a new condition—all artworks must fit within a shoe or boot box—adding an extra layer of ingenuity to the creative process.

Entries must be submitted by Friday 24 April, with the exhibition running from Monday 27 April through to Sunday 10 May. Winners will be announced at the official exhibition opening on Monday, 27 April.

The exhibition has become a highlight on the local calendar, drawing strong community participation and providing a platform for both emerging and established artists to share their work. More importantly, it continues to spark conversation around waste reduction and environmental responsibility in a practical and engaging way.

Entry forms are available in person at the Oberon Library & Community Centre, or can be requested via email at library@oberon.nsw.gov.au.

For further information, contact the library on 6329 8220.

With creativity, community and sustainability at its core, Waste 2 Art is a timely reminder that even the smallest pieces can make a big impact.
