Families, history lovers and day-trippers are encouraged to head to Hartley Historic Site on Sunday, 3 May, for a full day of free activities that bring the village to life.
Running from 9 am to 3 pm, Hartley Discovery Day offers visitors the chance to step inside select historic buildings, explore local market stalls and enjoy a relaxed program of live music and creative workshops.
Art sessions hosted by Arts OutWest will offer hands-on activities for all ages, while the open-day format allows visitors to wander at their own pace and take in the unique character of this well-preserved heritage village.
For those wanting a deeper experience, guided walking tours will be available with discovery rangers. These tours offer insight into Hartley’s rich and layered past, including its role in the early development of the NSW colony and its place in Australia’s tourism history. Bookings are recommended to secure a spot, so head to www.nswparks.info/hartley-discovery-day
Visitors are also encouraged to explore the village’s small businesses, including the popular Postmistress Café and Store, Gold Rush Antiques, Talisman Gallery, and the Hartley Visitor Centre and Kew-Y-Ahn Aboriginal Gallery.
Beyond the village centre, the surrounding grounds provide plenty of space to stretch your legs, with the Rowsons River and Bells Rock Heritage walking tracks offering an opportunity to take in the natural beauty of the area. Dogs are welcome in outdoor areas, provided they remain on a leash.
With something for all ages, Hartley Discovery Day is shaping up as a relaxed and engaging way to connect with local history, creativity and community.
