Newsletter – The Lyrebird Local – Summer January 2026
Our new ABCD Inc. committee sends warm wishes to everyone as we look ahead. Reflecting on 2025, admittedly, it was an exhausting year, but above all I feel immense pride in what our community has achieved together.
On 21 December 2019, our villages faced the devastation of the Black Summer Bushfires, On this date, six years later, neighbours gathered to reconnect, enjoy each other’s company and welcome newcomers to the area. This occasion also marked the unveiling of our new community hall – an inspiring testament to what can be achieved by the combined commitment of three close knit villages. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it took three villages to build our hall. This achievement shows the power of collective effort. The new hall will continue to bring us together for celebrations, meetings, activities and support in times of need.
This Spring, we look forward to the official opening of the hall once the earthworks and landscaping are completed. We continue to seek additional funding, and when the time comes, we will be asking residents to help with planting and watering. Your ongoing support means so much as we continue to work together to complete this project.

Newly named Lyrebird Community Hall update
We are now ready to begin the earthmoving works and landscaping phase of the project. Our original civil engineering plans were overly complex and costly. We redesigned and submitted new plans to the council before Christmas. The updated design uses the land’s natural slope, reducing the need for retaining walls and fill. This approach also allows us to install a more modest and efficient rain and stormwater management system.
At the same time, the landscaping project will begin preparing gardens for planting, with work expected to start in early winter. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Karen at Secretary@abcdinc.org.au.
Over the past four months, we invited the community to help choose a name for our new hall by submitting suggestions to our survey. During the Annual General Meeting in late November, several more names were proposed before the survey closed. We are delighted to announce that our new hall has been named Lyrebird Community Hall.
Renowned local sculptor Henryk Topolnicki has generously offered to create a unique sculpture for the venue, giving our hall its own unique personality. We look forward to unveiling the completed artwork and celebrating this milestone together as a community at the hall’s official opening.
