Blayney Rotary Honours Local Changemakers with Paul Harris Fellow Recognition

On Wednesday 4 February, Blayney Rotary Club proudly acknowledged two outstanding community contributors with the presentation of Paul Harris Fellow awards — one of Rotary’s highest forms of recognition.

Blayney Rotary Club Secretary Jane Whitten, on behalf of President Rohan Hoadley, had the honour of presenting the awards to Louise Sheather and Sally Ryan, recognising their exceptional service and commitment to improving lives within the local community.

Louise Sheather was acknowledged for her long-standing work with the Toy Library, a vital community resource that supports families by providing access to educational and developmental toys. Her dedication has helped countless children thrive while easing the financial pressure on families, reinforcing the power of practical, grassroots support.

Sally Ryan received her Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of her innovative and compassionate project work, including initiatives such as Lids for Kids and the Domestic Violence Escape Bags program. These projects reflect a deep understanding of community need, offering both dignity and tangible assistance to some of the region’s most vulnerable people.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who have made — or who have had made in their name — a contribution of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Established in 1957, the award was created to honour founder Paul Harris and to encourage philanthropy that supports Rotary’s humanitarian, educational and community-building programs worldwide.

Over the decades, Paul Harris Fellows have included notable figures such as former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, astronaut James Lovell, former UN Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, and polio vaccine developer Jonas Salk. In 2006, the number of Paul Harris Fellows worldwide surpassed one million.

For Blayney Rotary, the recognition of Louise Sheather and Sally Ryan is a powerful reminder that meaningful change often begins locally — driven by people who quietly, consistently, and generously give back to their community.
