BizMonth – Shane Jacobson

It felt like a little bit of Hollywood descended upon Bathurst Goldfields last Thursday for the delayed annual Bathurst BizMonth Lunch.

This year’s guest speaker was the charismatic Aussie actor, Shane Jacobson who you may have seen on the big screen in recent years with films like Never Too Late, Ladies in Black or even his iconic breakout role as Kenny Smyth in Kenny back in 2006!

It was such a pleasure to spend a few minutes chatting with Shane, who has such a wonderful appreciation of all things “Bathurst”, saying “I’ve been to Bathurst many many times and wish I could just move here! Better check that with the wife, huh!”

As an avid race fan and enthusiast who is currently building his own race car, Shane also commented “I’ve actually been lucky enough to race here twice in the past and what an experience that was.”

Mayor Robert Taylor said “It was fantastic being able to listen to Shane talk about business and life in a fun way that was also a bit light-hearted. Business has been tough in recent years so to be able to have a laugh and be entertained was great.”

As a fellow small business owner, Shane and his wife Felicity Hunter know exactly how hard business can be, saying “I think all businesses that have actually stayed in business during the last few years should be congratulated! I mean, wow! What an effort! We should give you a trophy that says Still in Business!” Shane encourages residents and visitors to support local businesses when you can. “Buy that coffee, or maybe even an extra coffee that week because every little bit counts.”

Shane’s message to business was very much about being adaptable. “Being adaptable and being able to react really fast is crucial right now. But if you can keep moving and doing whatever it takes, hopefully you’ll get there,” he said.

All in all, it was a really informative and entertaining event for the local business community. A big thanks to Bathurst Business Hub as well as their sponsors for a great afternoon.
