Bathurst Business Trainee, Lauren Casani, has been utilising her traineeship experience to change the lives of Bathurst youth by offering career mentoring and placing 19 young people in the Bathurst area into apprenticeships and traineeships.
Since the completion of her Business Services traineeship with Skillset in February 2022, Lauren provides interview and education support to potential apprentices and trainees, youth support through the placement of School-based trainees and liaises with regional schools to promote apprenticeship and trainee opportunities.
“Through my experience with Skillset and learning about the benefits of vocational education and training (VET) as a career pathway, I love sharing my story about the career foundations that traineeships and apprenticeships can provide. On the job training meant I learnt directly in a corporate environment and was trained by industry experts, while maintaining work-life balance. I am dedicated to educate local young people about the options available to them and what it can mean for their career. I am extremely proud to have played a part in the placement of 19 young people into training and work across multiple industries and I can’t wait to help more.” said Lauren.
Commencing in 2021 and initially employed as a receptionist, Lauren was quickly promoted to Recruitment Resourcer due to her passion for career development of young people into sustainable career pathways. A high achiever, Lauren completed her studies within six months of her 18-month traineeship allowing her to pursue additional recruitment training to increase her knowledge to better assist job candidates.
Skillset General Manager, Jane McWilliam said: “Lauren is an inspiration for our youth community, she has taken the initiative to share her experience with others and is passionate to seek out those who could benefit from this type of training. We saw a genuine interest from Lauren to be a youth ambassador for the benefits of VET and quickly realised the talent she had for interpreting roles and the people suited to them.”
Lauren was recently recognised for her training efforts and was named Skillset Trainee of the Month and is also being nominated for the 2022 NSW Training Awards Trainee of the Year where winners will be announced in June 2022 at the Gala Awards Night in Mudgee.
