Bathurst Library is thrilled to announce an inspiring event featuring renowned author Gabbie Stroud discussing her latest book, The Things That Matter Most, on Tuesday 8 August, commencing at 6pm.
Experience is the best teacher and Gabbie Stroud brings her years of experience as
a teacher to a moving and compelling novel about teachers and their students in her
fictional debut.
Set in the imagined school St Margaret’s Primary, the book offers a gut-wrenching
and important commentary on the role of teachers in children’s lives and the
expectations placed on them. At St Margaret’s the staff are hanging by a thread,
there’s serious litigation pending, and a powerful parent has a lot to say about
everything.
Gabbie Stroud has garnered widespread acclaim for her insights into the world of
education. Her memoir Teacher was shortlisted for Biography Book of the Year at the
2018 ABIA Awards and contributed to the national dialogue on education. In 2016,
her critical commentary of Australia’s education system was published in Griffith
Review’s Edition 51 Fixing the System, which went on to be shortlisted for a Walkley
Award. In 2020 her book, Dear Parents: Letters From the Teacher- Your Children,
Their Education, and How You Can Help, offered a passionate call to arms for all
parents.

The talk will be held at Bathurst Library, 70-78 Keppel Street and starts at 6pm.
