Can Assist Blayney – Local Support When It Matters Most & Melbourne Cup Fun!

A cancer diagnosis can turn life upside down, bringing emotional, physical and financial challenges for patients and their families. In regional communities, where accessing treatment often means travelling considerable distances, those challenges can be even greater. Thankfully, organisations like Blayney Shire Can Assist are making a real difference.

Run by dedicated local volunteers, Blayney Shire Can Assist provides confidential financial assistance to people affected by cancer, helping ease some of the pressures that come with treatment and recovery. Importantly, funds raised locally stay within the local community, ensuring the generosity of Blayney Shire residents directly benefits those who need support.

Assistance can cover a wide range of expenses, including medical costs, travel to appointments, accommodation, pharmaceuticals, home care and everyday household expenses such as utilities. For families already navigating the uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis, this practical support can make an enormous difference.

One message Blayney Shire Can Assist is particularly keen to share is that people should never hesitate to reach out, even if they are unsure whether they qualify for assistance or how the process works. The branch’s friendly volunteers are always happy to have a confidential conversation, explain the services available and help patients and families understand how to access support.

There is no expectation that people need to have all the answers before making contact. Sometimes, that first conversation is simply the best place to start.

Of course, providing this valuable assistance relies heavily on community generosity, and one of the branch’s most popular annual fundraisers is just around the corner.

The Blayney Shire Can Assist Melbourne Cup Luncheon will be held on Tuesday 3 November at the Blayney Community Centre, commencing at 12 noon.

For just $30 per person, guests can enjoy a delicious homemade two-course luncheon prepared by volunteers, with plenty of salads, meats and desserts on offer.

The afternoon will also feature sweeps, raffles, lucky door and table prizes, along with Best Hat, Best Fascinator and Fashions on the Floor competitions.

Guests are welcome to BYO alcohol and soft drinks, with all proceeds supporting the important work of Blayney Shire Can Assist.

Table bookings can be made through Blayney Real Estate on 6368 2507, with further luncheon enquiries on 0458 141 249.

For anyone seeking assistance, or simply wanting to understand what support is available, contact Blayney Shire Can Assist on 0494 371 740 or email CanAssistBlayney@outlook.com.

In a regional community, knowing someone is there to help can make all the difference – and Blayney Shire Can Assist is a wonderful example of locals looking after locals.
