Community Comes Together for Kandos Picnic Day

Families came together in Kandos this week for a relaxed day of activities, creativity and connection at the Kandos Community Picnic Day.

Held at Kandos Community Hall on Tuesday 29 September, the free event provided a great opportunity for local families to enjoy some school holiday fun while also connecting with a range of services available across the region.

Children were kept busy with free face painting and creative activities, including a special gel plate printing workshop presented by Mid-Western Regional Youth with local artist Maddie O’Brien.

Designed for young people aged eight to 14, the workshop encouraged participants to get creative using leaves, flowers and locally sourced botanicals to produce their own colourful gel prints to take home.

While the kids got creative, parents and carers had the opportunity to meet representatives from allied health and government agencies, learn more about available services and make connections closer to home.

Events such as the Kandos Community Picnic Day provide an important opportunity to bring services directly into smaller communities while creating a welcoming and informal environment for families.

It was also a chance to simply spend some time together during the school holidays, catch up with other local families and enjoy activities right here in Kandos.

The day formed part of Mid-Western Regional Council’s ongoing community and youth activities across the region, with programs regularly offered in Mudgee, Gulgong, Kandos and Rylstone.

With plenty of creativity, conversation and community connection throughout the day, the Kandos Community Picnic Day was a lovely addition to the September school holidays and another positive opportunity for local families to connect with both their community and the services available to support them.
