For an incredible 94 years, the Portland Branch of the Country Women’s Association has been supporting its local community – and its members continue to find thoughtful ways to make a difference.
Earlier this year, members put their handiwork to good use, creating knee rugs which were donated to residents at Tabulam and Cooinda, providing a little extra warmth and comfort through the colder months.
More recently, the group turned its attention to children receiving care at Turner’s Ward at Westmead Children’s Hospital. Members put together special library bags filled with reading books donated by Portland Library, along with activity books, pencils, games and dolls – a lovely initiative designed to bring some enjoyment to young patients during their hospital stay.
But CWA Portland is also very much about friendship, connection and bringing local women together.
The Branch holds regular activities including gentle Tai Chi, handicrafts and art, and welcomes women of all ages and abilities – from working and stay-at-home mums through to active retirees.
And they’re always open to new ideas! If you have an activity you’d love to share, or you’re simply looking or an opportunity to meet new people and become involved in your community, CWA Portland would love to hear from you.
