Finding inspiration in Regional Australia: Tara Coey’s first solo exhibition.

Had it not been for a move to the Central West in 2020, local artist Tara Coey believes she may never have pursued life as an artist.

A Brisbane-born suburban kid, regional living was not something she had anticipated. But after putting down roots in Orange to raise her young family here, the landscape around her provided the inspiration to pick up the paintbrush once more.

Tara Coey’s upcoming solo exhibition at the Peisley St Gallery in Orange (19 October –28 November 2026) is a quiet tribute to regional Australia and the landscapes that shape everyday country life.

Through subtle colour and considered compositions, her works captures fleeting moments encountered in the landscape – a country road, open fields, distant horizons, changing light and the expansive skies of regional Australia.

The works invite viewers to slow down and notice the quiet beauty of the landscapes around us – places that can easily become familiar but are often worth looking at twice.

Tara Coey’s solo exhibition opens at the Peisley Street Gallery in Orange on Thursday 22 October at 6pm. All are welcome.
