An Intimate Afternoon with Abby Smith at Portland Larder

Portland Larder is set to welcome Central West singer-songwriter Abby Smith for a very special afternoon of live music, with the popular local venue hosting its first intimate acoustic gig.

Taking over the Larder’s front room, Abby will perform a one-hour acoustic set in what promises to be a beautiful afternoon of storytelling, original music and connection – with the cosy Portland setting providing the perfect backdrop.

A Central West-based singer-songwriter, composer, recording artist and gigging musician, Abby has been writing songs since her twenties and performing and recording music for the past two decades.

Many will know her as one half of touring folk/alternative act Smith & Jones, which has released three albums, while Abby has also performed extensively as a solo artist and backing singer.

Over the past year, she has been turning her attention to a new solo project, picking up the guitar alongside her trusty piano and writing a collection of deeply personal songs exploring ageing, changing relationships, motherhood and grief.

Her Portland Larder appearance will give audiences the chance to hear some of this work in the kind of intimate setting where great songwriting really shines.

And, of course, being Portland Larder, there will be plenty of amazing coffee and cake to enjoy before the music begins!

Doors open at 1.30pm, with Abby performing from 2pm to 3pm.

Importantly, this one is a true listening gig. Coffee and cake service will pause during the performance, allowing Abby’s music and storytelling to take centre stage for the hour.

It’s a wonderful addition to Portland’s growing calendar of arts and cultural events – and a great opportunity to support both a talented regional musician and a local venue trying something new.

Tickets are available for $15 now through Humanitix
