Wombats Crossing to Bring Chamber Folk Magic to Bathurst

Music lovers are in for a special evening when acclaimed folk trio Wombats Crossing performs at Jack Duggan’s Irish Pub on Wednesday, 17 June, as guests of the Bathurst Folk Club.

The evening will begin with local floor spots and walk-up performances from 7.30 pm to 8 pm, and anyone interested in performing is encouraged to contact organiser Jenny Watson beforehand. Entry is by a recommended $20 donation.

Wombats Crossing has earned a reputation as one of Australia’s most captivating contemporary folk acts. Part of the modern chamber folk movement, the trio blends influences from traditional and world music to create performances that are both atmospheric and energetic.

The group was formed in 2012 by Christine Wheeler, a respected figure in Australia’s traditional music scene, known for her work as a choir director, woodwind player, guitarist and singer. She is joined by Rebecca Daniel, an accomplished violinist, composer and vocalist whose impressive career includes performances with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and sharing the stage with INXS and Barbra Streisand.

Completing the trio is guitarist Leigh Birkett, whose rich Celtic-inspired tunings provide the perfect accompaniment to the group’s intricate harmonies and melodies.

With exceptional musicianship and beautiful vocal arrangements, Wombats Crossing promises an enchanting night of live music that is well worth venturing out for.
