Smith & Jones headline National Simultaneous Storytime celebrations at Bathurst library

Families and communities are the themes for this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime to be held at Bathurst Library on Wednesday 25 May with special guests, local musicians Smith & Jones!

The event starts at 10.45am in the library for an 11am sharp kick off with Smith & Jones who will read the book ‘Family Tree’, written by fellow musician, and author Josh Pyke, and illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh.

More stories, music and rhymes with Smith & Jones and library staff will follow the main book reading and a lucky door prize for participating day care centres and families will be presented. A community tree with the handprint leaves created by Bathurst children will adorn the library window.

National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event held by the Australian Library and Information Association and is now in its 22nd year. Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country.

Manager of Bathurst Library Patou Clerc says “National Simultaneous Storytime aims to promote the value of reading and literacy. It also shines a light on the important role libraries and other children’s facilities play in our community and promotes the contribution of Australian writers, illustrators, and publishers”.

“This year’s book is about community, the sweet and heartfelt celebration of family, and the seasons of life we cherish and share’.

BooksPlus Bathurst will have a stall on the day to purchase copies of ‘Family Tree’ as well as other titles by Josh Pyke. Spaces are limited and bookings are essential.

For more information and booking details you can visit bathurst.nsw.gov.au/library or call the library on 6333 6281.
