Lithgow Council Welcomes New Leadership following 2024 Elections

Tuesday night saw the Lithgow City Council hold an extraordinary meeting for all new councillors to take Oath and Affirmation of Office for the new and returning Councillors, marking the beginning of the 2024-2028 term. The meeting introduced a blend of seasoned leaders and fresh faces who will guide the council over the next four years.

The election of the Mayor was also conducted with Councillor Cassandra Coleman, known for her community-focused approach, being elected as Mayor. Councillor Steve Ring was appointed as Deputy Mayor. Both Mayor Coleman and Deputy Mayor Ring recognise the importance of teamwork and open communication with residents.

The 2024 council election concluded with the appointment of nine Councillors: Martin Ticehurst, Eric Mahony, Cass Coleman, Maree Statham, Darryl Goodwin, Elizabeth Fredericks, Ray Smith, Tom Evangelidis, and Steven Ring. This diverse group of representatives was officially declared on 1 October 2024 after the counting process and distribution of preferences. The election saw a strong representation of Independents, underscoring the community’s preference for local, issue-based governance over party politics.

The composition of the council ensures a mix of continuity and new perspectives. Several returning Councillors bring experience in managing ongoing initiatives, while new members infuse fresh ideas and energy. Their collective priorities for the term include infrastructure development, sustainable growth, and the enhancement of community services.

The newly sworn-in council is faced with tackling the challenges facing Lithgow, with a focus on creating a sustainable and prosperous future while preserving the city’s heritage. Not an easy task, but one the community wishes to see realised through teamwork, shared vision and understanding of what is important to the ratepayers of the region.
