Mudgee Turns Pink for a Cause This October

October has arrived, and across the Mudgee Region there is one colour you can expect to see plenty of — PINK!

Mudgee has a very special connection to the Pink Up movement, having been the first town in Australia to turn pink in support of the McGrath Foundation during Cancer Awareness Month.

What began as a wonderful community initiative in Mudgee has since inspired communities across Australia to get involved in Pink Up Your Town, raising funds and awareness while bringing people together for an incredibly important cause.

Throughout October, businesses, schools, community groups and residents across Mudgee, Gulgong, Rylstone and Kandos are encouraged to embrace all things pink.

And when this community gets behind something, it certainly knows how to do it properly!

Shopfronts, schools, wineries, firefighters, tradies, doctors, pubs and local businesses are among those joining the pink takeover, with activities and fundraising events happening throughout the month. In previous years, everything from pink bubbles car washes to veterinary clinics has joined the fun.

Behind all the colour is an important purpose — raising funds for the McGrath Foundation and helping support its work providing McGrath Cancer Care Nurses to people and families experiencing cancer across
Australia.

Locally, Pink Up Mudgee is coordinated by the hardworking volunteer Pink Up Committee, with support from Mid-Western Regional Council.

Businesses across the region are also being encouraged to take part in Pink Up Your Business, spreading even more colour throughout the community during October.

Petrie’s Mitre 10 Mudgee is sponsoring first, second and third prizes for the best “Pinked Up” businesses, so there is plenty of incentive to get creative with those shopfronts, windows and workplaces.

There is also a huge program of activities planned throughout October, giving locals plenty of opportunities to join in, have some fun and support the cause.

Head to the Pink Up Mudgee website and check the Events section to see what is happening throughout the month – www.pinkupmudgee.au/events.

A massive thank you must go to the Pink Up Committee and everyone lending a hand to make this year’s pink takeover possible.

So grab something pink, get involved and help the Mudgee Region shine bright for a very worthy cause this October!
