Artists from the Bathurst region with strong connections to the local community are being invited to contribute to artworks planned for the $200 million Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment, with Expressions of Interest now open.
The artworks will feature in the new purpose-built community health facility helping to create a welcoming, culturally inclusive and supportive environment for patients, visitors and staff.
The Bathurst Hospital redevelopment is currently under construction, and will deliver enhanced access to modern health facilities and expanded healthcare services to meet the future health needs of communities across the Central West.
Artists at all stages of their career who have a connection to the region are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest, with registrations open until 11.59pm, Friday 23 October 2026. Selected artists will have the opportunity to contribute artworks that reflect the identity, stories and diversity of the local community.
“We are looking for artists who are really open to a collaborative process around their artworks and designs,” said Arts OutWest Arts & Health coordinator Steven Cavanagh.
Up to 10 artworks will be included as part of the Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment arts program, with a preference for two-dimensional works that can also be digitised for use as largescale wall graphics.
The Expression of Interest forms the first stage of the Arts Strategy for the Bathurst Hospital Redevelopment.
Arts in Health initiatives are an integral part of NSW Health infrastructure projects and align with the NSW Health and the Arts Framework 2024-2032, which highlights the role of the arts in supporting positive experiences for patients, staff and communities.
“This is a unique opportunity for visual artists or creative teams with a relationship to the region, to develop work that is both socially engaging and responsive to the local landscape and its narratives,” said Mr Cavanagh.
Artists interested in learning more are encouraged to join an online information session on Monday 28 September at 5pm.
