A popular weekly performing arts program is looking to expand to Blayney.
Compareo is for adults with disabilities who have a strong interest in drama, dance or the performing arts. The program currently runs weekly in Bathurst and Orange.
Creator of Compareo Catherine McNamara has a long history of facilitating performing arts programs for and with people with disabilities. A major highlight was the premiere of her children’s theatre play ViV! in Bathurst in last year, where members of Bathurst’s Compareo program helped prepare, plan and take part in the professional performance.
“The weekly classes aim to improve confidence, communication, fitness, and team work,” Ms McNamara said. “‘Compareo’ is Latin for ‘be visible, be present’, and these workshops are an empowering and skills-based way to build self-expression and share your creative flair.”
Participants can attend with support workers, who are encouraged to get involved in the activities too.
“We hope we can get enough interest in the Blayney area to offer this amazing group locally,” Ms McNamara said.
The Blayney Compareo program is proposed for Thursdays in term blocks of 10 weeks.

This program aligns with NDIS participants’ core funding, under Assistance with Social, Economic, and Community Participation. Arts OutWest coordinates the Bathurst Compareo program.
