The success of BARC continues as it celebrates its second full year of operation. In the 2025/26 financial year, hundreds of animals were expertly cared for and matched with local families to secure their forever homes.
In the past 12 months, BARC has reunited 237 dogs with their owners, and a further 127 dogs have found their loving forever homes. Additionally, 85 lucky cats found their forever homes within the community, and an additional 7 were successfully reunited with their owners.
It’s been a fantastic financial year for BARC, with Mayor Robert Taylor remarking that it is thanks to passionate community support and engagement that loving homes are consistently able to be found for each animal.
“The Bathurst Animal Rehoming Centre is a core pillar of our local community, and it has been another great 12 months for the facility. It’s terrific to see results like these, with more than 200 animals finding their forever homes, and even more safely making their way back to their owners.
“Whether you’ve adopted a pet, helped reunite a lost animal with its family, donated, supported BARC’s events, or shared the stories of animals in need, you’ve made a real difference. Thank you for helping the team give hundreds of animals a safe place and a brighter future each year. Thank you as well to veterinary partners Canobolas Family Pet Hospital and Stewart Street Veterinary Hospital, as well as MARS Petcare for their ongoing assistance, supporting the health and wellbeing of animals in BARC’s care.
However, Mayor Taylor further commented on the declining rate of microchipping, causing difficulties when attempting to reunite lost pets with their owners.
“Only 37% of BARC’s incoming animals were microchipped this financial year. While the team works as hard as they can, declining microchipping rates make returning animals to their owners increasingly difficult. I implore you to get in touch with your local vet, or look out for Council’s free microchipping days, to ensure your animals are appropriately registered and can be reunited with you should they escape,” said Mayor Taylor.
